New Car: 2012 Porsche 911 Black Edition

As the Porsche 997 is entering the autumn of its life cycle—we expect its successor, the 991, to debut this September at the Frankfurt auto show—the marketing team in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen still is coming up with ways to keep the current model attractive.

The last few variations on the 911—including the GTS and Speedster—were positioned at the top of the model range. The 911 Black Edition follows a vastly different approach: Available as a coupe and cabriolet, it comes only with rear-wheel drive and the standard 345-hp engine. At a base price of $82,250, the Black Edition coupe carries a $3500 premium over the barest of all 911s; the cabrio’s sticker of $92,250 represents a $2500 uptick.

Like the GTS, the Black Edition adds more extra equipment than its additional cost would otherwise cover. Normally a $2440 option, 19-inch Turbo II wheels are included in the purchase. Also on the house are the Bose surround sound and a navigation system, plus a few other trinkets. Altogether, the extras in the Black Edition are worth about $10,000.

Appropriately, this 911 is available in any color as long as it’s black: standard black or $710 Basalt Black Metallic, to be precise. Even the brake calipers are black. Black Edition plaques adorn the door sills and glove box, and “aluminum look" (read: plastic) decorative panels are affixed to the dashboard and center console.

If you hear “base engine” and think “bummer,” a turn behind the wheel will change your mind. Coupled with one of the best manual transmissions on the road today, the 345-hp, 3.6-liter flat-six should storm to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds; with the optional PDK dual-clutch transmission, we’ve clocked a rear-drive 911 to the mile-a-minute mark in just 4.1 seconds. On PDK cars, the optional Sport Chrono package will shave some time from acceleration runs thanks to its launch-control function. Top speed is said to be 180 mph with the manual, 178 with PDK.

Porsche will build exactly 1911 Black Editions, of which about 25 percent are headed to the U.S. If you are in the market for a 997 and want a black one, this is one of the smartest choices out there. Theoretically, building cars in limited numbers makes them future collectors’ items, but if Porsche keeps turning out limited editions at this rate, the standard models might be the rarest of all.

Detroit Show 2011 Highlights: Porsche 918 RSR Concept

Porsche is showcasing the future production version of its 918 hybrid project — and stealing the limelight at this week’s Detroit motor show — with this 756bhp race car, called 918 RSR.

The new model takes the powerplant originally showcased in the 918 Spyder at the 2010 Geneva show and builds on its power and efficiency. Its V8 motor (Porsche hasn’t revealed its capacity yet but acknowledges that it’s a development of the RS Spyder racer’s 3.4-litre unit) produces an extra 55bhp, taking it to 555bhp at a heady 10,300rpm.

That grunt is fed through the rear wheels via a six-speed paddle-shift transmission, while a pair of front-mounted electric motors contribute an additional 201bhp to give a total of 756bhp. They use energy stored during braking in a flywheel spinning at up to 36,000rpm, and their power is called up manually by the driver pushing a button.

The flywheel system, which has potential weight benefits over heavy battery cells, is a development of the set-up already used by Porsche’s current hybrid racer, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. It uses technology commissioned by Porsche and built by a division of the Williams F1 team.

Porsche claims the system can provide up to eight seconds of continuous supply when fully charged, and that it offers a torque vectoring ability to improve agility and steering response. However, in the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the electric motors can also be used to help reduce fuel consumption, cutting the number of pitstops required or allowing the vehicle to run with less fuel on board.

The 918 RSR’s construction focuses on keeping the car’s weight to a minimum. As with the original Spyder, its monocoque chassis is made from carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). But unlike the Geneva show car, the RSR has a hard-top and doors that open vertically.

It’s widely believed that the shape of the RSR — huge rear wing excepted — is that of the eventual 918 production model. Many of the core features of the 918 Spyder remain, including the deeply scalloped rear bodywork, side-mounted exhausts and air intakes at either side and on top of the rear cowling.

The number carried by the Detroit show car — 22 — pays tribute to a 917 short-tail coupé that won the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours in the hands of Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep. Its distance record — 3315.21 miles at an average speed of 138.13mph — stood until last year’s running of the classic enduro. The car’s colour scheme is a blend of what Porsche calls “liquid metal blue” and the orange commonly used on the firm’s hybrid projects.

2012 Porsche 918: New supercar expected for Detroit Motor Show 2011

Porsche favored in recent years, the Los Angeles Auto Show to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. 2011, Stuttgart, however, are again on show in Michigan (15 to 23 January) represented, and that with even a world premiere. What will be the sharing of Stuttgart not, but according to unconfirmed rumors is a new super sports car. Our artist has made from the car is already an image.

The new car will be positioned over the 911 and could face the Italia Ferrari 458, Lamborghini LP 570-4, and the Superleggera starting in spring 2011 McLaren MP4-12 start. However, the new Porsche start only in 2014. If one takes the measure of the competitors, the new supercar should have a 600 horsepower engine and cost around 200,000 €. As the drive would be in the power range of the six-cylinder turbo from the 911 GT2 offers with 620 hp or the much less efficient from the R8 V10 Biturbo GT from Audi Group partners, who then delivers 560 hp. But the new Porsche is to get a V8 twin-turbo as the McLaren, but not with the rear, but with all-wheel drive. As with McLaren, the weight of carbon use is reduced.

A hybrid drive would be easy as the 918 Spyder. In at the Geneva Salon 2010 presented mid-engine study worked a plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a V8 with 500 hp and electric motors on the front and rear suspension with a total capacity of again 218 hp. Together would give the a competitive performance - at a much lower consumption than in a pure combustion drive. That left the 918 is no mere gimmick, is certain: In the summer of 2010 the series development started. Let's call the new Porsche 918 Supercar so quiet

Hot News: Porsche Cajun Gets Green Light

The Cajun is go! Porsche has confirmed that its next model line will be a new SUV, which will slot into the range below the Cayenne. In a statement from yesterday’s board meeting, Porsche confirmed a new model “under the working name "Cajun"… will further expand the world’s most successful Porsche segment in the SUV sector.”

The new car will form what Porsche describes as “an attractive entry model in the Porsche world.

The "Cajun" will attract new and even younger customers to the premium brand along with the Boxster, the market leader in the segment of two-seater, mid-size sports cars.”

The Porsche Cajun will be based on the Audi Q5 and will go into production in 2013. The move makes plenty of sense, as the recently introduced new Cayenne is selling extremely well. In the first full quarter of sales of the new car, the Cayenne shifted more than double the number of cars in the same period last year.

Porsche also confirmed that Wolfgang Hatz will be promoted to its board as the new head of research and development. Hatz moves from his position as the boss of Engines and Transmissions Development for the Volkswagen Group and replaces Wolfgang Dürheimer who has moved to take charge of Bentley, Bugatti and VW Motorsport. Hot News: Spectacular New Vehicle from Porsche at NAIAS 2011

Porsche's vehicles have been absent from the Detroit Auto Show since 2007, but the automaker appears to be setting itself up for a triumphant return with today's announcement. The automaker recently said it will be unveiling a "spectacular" vehicle at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month.

"We'll have something spectacular to show there," Porsche spokesman Hans- Gerd Bode told Automotive News today. "You'll have to wait and be surprised.
"The Stuttgart-based automaker made a similar cryptic announcement prior to the Los Angeles Auto Show last month, which was later followed by the unveiling of its Cayman R. This time around, we are left with more questions than answers, but earlier this week, the automaker's board of directors gave the go ahead to a small SUV currently dubbed the Cajun. While the baby Cayenne isn't expected to go into production until sometime late next year or early 2012, Porsche's return to the Detroit show could be an excellent place to debut an early concept.
Conversely, Porsche has recently been seen testing a scantily-clad next-generation 911. With Porsche rolling out the 911 Speedster at the Paris Motor Show in September -- signaling the end of the 997 series -- the next 911 is due anytime now. A new Boxster as well as a production version of the 918 Spyder concept from Geneva, are also said to be in the works.
Unveiling a major model at a United States auto show signals just how important the market is for Porsche. Last year, 25 percent of Porsche's 85,903 deliveries went to U.S. buyers. Through the first eleven months of the year, Porsche has delivered 22,753 vehicles in the U.S., a 29-percent increase over last year's sales. The automaker has set a goal of selling 150,000 units globally by 2013, and with its Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan leading the way, the introduction of another volume model -- Cajun -- will help it achieve its ambitious goal.

Nissan GTR 2011, with 530 hp Porsche is to challenge

Nissan GTR 2011
Nissan GTR 2011
Nissan GTR 2011
Nissan GTR 2011

Wearing any adjective, but no comparison around. With a look outside the box to do so much school, with a mechanical way over the top to inspire customers to sports they never thought of Nissan.

After three years after its debut, when a normal car would already be "known", with a revitalized Nissan GTR 2011 model year that throws the flames of envy of others 55 more hp and even an advanced mode "Save" to save fuel, and not on board any of a jewel.

Planned debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November, arriving in Italy by February 2011, but is also subject to the Bologna Motorshow. The new 2011 GTR is going to a real technical update as you would with a race car, while maintaining naturalness of the beautiful car drivable every day as very few sports, or just Porsche. Rival is no coincidence.

New bumpers front and rear, details which increase the aerodynamic efficiency at high speed along with unusual interior, with more comfortable seats and an instrument panel reviewed in some detail. But clearly this is not the key to the problem.

The admiration for Nissan GTR melts, indeed crumble in the face of the additional 55 hp Japanese technicians have managed to squeeze the already sophisticated 3.8-liter V6 turbo gasoline, which now goes from 485 to 530 hp of maximum power at 6,400 rpm maintaining a torque of 612 Nm available from 3,200 to 6,000 rpm.

Change the cover of the magazine, now in red, but the numerous certificates in particular a further gain in the stretch while the proverbial push and drive to recovery in this model. All this with a new Save feature, which provides a more careful operation of the engine and gearbox, allowing the order to touch an average consumption of 8.5 l/100 km. Which is officially "not" on board a car that we remember to have a four wheel drive system between the fastest and most responsive in the world.

In Model Year 2011 program will also confirm the special series, first, the sporty GT-R SpecV 2011 with an adjustment of the engine that keeps the 530 hp but raises the maximum torque of 632 Nm to debut in Europe instead GT-R versions Egoist, with full leather interior and more luxury, but GT-R Track Club, in no uncertain terms designed for use only on the track.

2011 Detroit Auto Show: Porsche has a new supercar

According to recent rumors, taken from several internet sites, in recent hours, the car would buck of developing a new supercar to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show 2011, the United States, scheduled for January 10 to 24 next, and return it to the North American festival, after years of defection (the participation of Porsche event is part of the Volkswagen Group to increase the roots of all its brands around the world and thus become the largest manufacturer worldwide). We're not sure what we say, the voice is coming out of the factory without any confirmation from the Porsche management.

It appears, giving heed to what they say, that Porsche has achieved this new supercar, never heard or seen before today, the platform 918 Spyder, the hybrid concept car that the manufacturer of Zuffenhausen presented in Geneva in 2010, gaining a better success. The rumor defines the project as a spectacular new concept that points to a future production model. With Porsche 918 Spyder, the concept car will share many components, in addition to the flatbed, and even the ecological context.
